Jacob Hughes

Art Direction, Graphic Design

Jacob Hughes is a film maker, and musician based in London.

I was asked by Jacob to create two film posters, as part of promotion for two upcoming productions, Argentina, and I Don’t Like Being Lonely.

The poster sat on a black background, featuring the text Argentina along with the credits.

Argentina is a short film following a cleaner who dreams of escaping his life of drudgery and monotony so that he can visit Argentina.

Taking stills and incorporating symbols from Argentinian iconography; the idea was to create a poster that offered tension mirroring the protagonist's obsession with the country.

I Don’t Like Being Lonely is a documentary following London-via-Sweden band Junodef as they prepare for a series of London gigs.

Taking influence from 90s post-hardcore, Midwest emo, grunge posters, and record sleeves, notably Slint’s The Breadcrumb Trail. Using hand written credits, washed out monochrome imagery, the rounded corners of a “fat telly”, and disjointed lead text, the poster for the documentary came together with high regard.

Since the launch of these two films, Jacob Hughes has continued to blend visual media and music, founding Peak Trading, a punk band in London.
