A diverse module library built to be used with ease by two data solution companies within the Clanwilliam brand.

Konnect NET and HealthLink, within the global Clanwilliam Group, are two companies offering data management solutions for insurance companies and medical organisations respectively. Structurally one division within Clanwilliam, they both have different branding styles.

At SoBold, I led the research and design phases to create a module library flexible enough to fit both Konnect NET's and HealthLink's individual branding and content.

Purpose

The module library was designed for both Konnect NET and HealthLink with financial and usability considerations in mind. Both companies were expanding rapidly within the Clanwilliam portfolio and had outdated web architecture.

Managed by the same team, updating the old sites was challenging—blocks were scattered and difficult to maintain. Our goal was to create an extensive and logical block library with plenty of editable fields and flexibility.

Challenges

One of the main challenges we faced in creating a library for two brands was deciding where to start with the design. Should we start with one and risk the structure not working for the other? Or should we risk a back-and-forth process, tweaking both sets of designs simultaneously?

Our approach involved dissecting the branding first. Designed by another agency, we analyzed the brands to find similarities that could be set up as variables within the broader HL/KN design system.

The Accessibility Issue

A key issue arose when adapting blocks to branding variants: accessibility. For example, smaller text in Konnect NET’s orange and white did not meet the required contrast criteria of WCAG 2.1.

To address this, we created separate variables, such as primary buttons, to ensure accessibility compliance.

Results and success

As a result of this redesign, HealthLink and Konnect NET have significantly grown in stature within the meditech sectors, becoming leading companies in Australia.

Argus, Connecting Care, and eReferrals—businesses owned by Australian health-tech company Telstra Health—are now part of Clanwilliam’s HealthLink.

Used by all major insurers and GPs in New Zealand, Konnect NET has achieved impressive results, such as:
